OmniPost: Our CC Newspaper

October 6, 2016

Our Student Newspaper has launched! Thanks to a group of our Rhetoric and Logic level students, the OmniPost was printed and distributed to every CC family last week. “It’s something new that we can bring to CC,” Madison, L2 Reporter/Editor, explained.

What’s in the Paper?

The student staff of reporters and editors shared their ideas for the paper. “Our first emphasis is covering events and people from CC. Because we only meet once a week, it’s good to know what people at CC are doing the other days of the week. It’s a way for people to connect and learn more about each other,” explained Josh, Senior Editor.

The Omnipost also features current events, movie reviews, sports, CC events like Showcase and Science Fair, Meet the Teachers, and extracurriculars CC students are involved in like sports, art and theater.

Starting the OmniPost

Josh talked about how the paper started. “I like journalism and writing, and wanted to join the newspaper program at Hersey, my local high school. But since I'm only taking classes there part-time, it's hard for me to get involved there. My mom suggested that I start a newspaper at CC. I emailed Mrs. Burns, and she said that I could do it.”

He contacted his classmates through Schoology and assembled a team of student reporters and editors. They spent September working on articles and putting the first edition of the paper together, and then they brought it to the printer’s.

Printing the Paper

The printing process had some hiccups. “The person who printed it did it upside down by mistake, but he reprinted it for free and then gave us our order for half price. It turned out to be a blessing,” Josh recounted.

Even with that minor setback, the paper was printed and complete to show to our homeschooling community last Monday.

When asked what he’s learned through the process so far, Josh replied, “I've learned to constantly communicate with your staff and if they have questions to be there. It’s a good experience learning how to work with other people.”

Student Bakesale

The OmniPost Staff held a bakesale at lunch last Monday to help raise money for the printing cost of the paper. It was a huge success. “It costs $56/month [to print], and we funded it with our bake sale,” Josh said.

Looking Ahead

After CC finished on Monday, students were excited to find the OmniPost in their folder and read it cover to cover.

We’re proud of the great initiative our students showed in starting this project. Look for the October edition of the OmniPost later this month!
